7: The Reception Room before the Bedchamber
Cupboard First third of the 18th century Netherlands This display case for ceremonial tableware was produced in the Netherlands in the first third of the 18th century and decorated with a marquetry trellis pattern using precious types of wood. It contains examples of silverware from Russia and Augsburg dating from the early 18th century (gilded cups, drinking vessels and jugs decorated with engraving, niello-work and chasing), glass from the Yamburg factory, and also items from the Kunstkammer: a German ivory sculpture of Juno and the Peacock and a cup made from a Caribbean seashell. |
