8: The Bedchamber of Alexander Menshikov
Washstand Second half of the 17th century Western Europe Oak and walnut The washstand is a three-tier construction where the washing set was placed in the centre while the upper and lower sections were used to store linen. The facade is richly decorated with little columns crowned by carved capitals and with niches containing rosettes, as well as with a geometrical mosaic pattern of walnut and ash and also exquisite metal escutcheons. |
