11: Maurice Denis's decorative ensemble The Story of Psyche. Room 1
1910-1911 Maillol, Aristide As well as Denis's paintings, Morozov's musical salon was adorned by
four statues created by the French sculptor Maillol. The sculptural
cycle is sometimes erroneously called The Four Seasons. In reality
two statues symbolize the time of flowering and two the time of fruit-bearing.
In each of the pairs one figure represents an Ancient Roman deity (Pomona
- the goddess of fruit and Flora - the goddess of flowers and gardens),
the other a mortal woman. |
