11: Maurice Denis's decorative ensemble The Story of Psyche. Room 1
1910 Denis, Maurice Art Nouveau that had its glorious heyday at the turn of the twentieth century was the style that particularly strove to realize the idea of a decorative-monumental ensemble. It seemed that everything - from architecture to jewellery - could be subordinated to the whimsically curved lines of the style. Art Nouveau was fascinated with the idea of synthesis, while clinging tenaciously to the concept of elegance. The ceramic vases and furniture created to Denis's designs that adorned Ivan Morozov's Moscow mansion and the series of thirteen panels complement each other and were born of a single set of principles. |
