3: The Study
Uniform of Marshal Ney 1810s France This is the dress field uniform of the famous French marshal that was completed by a bicorne hat with an aigrette and a waist sash plaited from gold threads. Embroidered onto the coat are the stars of the Legion of Honour and the Portuguese Order of Christ. The uniform is adorned with oak-leaf ornament that appeared in the decoration of French military attire under the Directory (1795–99). The motif is associated with the martial traditions of Ancient Gaul and appears nowadays on the uniforms of French generals. |
