This carriage was made in 1791 to a commission from Empress Catherine II by Andrei, the son of the celebrated court carriage-maker Johann Bukendahl in the workshops of the Court Stables in St Petersburg. In 1797 the carriage became the property of Emperor Paul I. In 1856 it was refurbished in the Court Carriage Establishment for members of the court to use in the carriage procession during the coronation of Emperor Alexander II.
