2: The Staraya Derevnya Restoration and Storage Centre - Today and Tomorrow

The second phase in the construction of the Staraya Derevnya Restoration and Storage Centre includes several new blocks: the Restoration and Curators' Block, the Lecture and Exhibition Block, Technical Block, Biological Control Block and the Entrance Hall - an extensive entry area with public services.
In the Restoration and Curators' Block we plan to create a Laboratory for the Scientific Restoration of Tapestries and Carpets, a combined workshop for the restoration of furniture, carriages, frames and works of applied art. It is also proposed that the block will accommodate a conventional library, a multimedia library and the creative studios of the museum's Schools Centre. The Lecture and Exhibition Block will be the venue for a variety of educational work: lectures, temporary exhibitions and concerts.
The next stage is the creation of the Repository will be the building of the Technical Block, the Bio-Control Block and the Entrance Hall.
The work on the second phase of the Repository that will form a new architectural image for the complex involves active use of the latest construction and finishing materials. The project is scheduled for completion in the next few years.
