This vehicle was made in 1856 in the St Petersburg workshops of the carriage manufacturer Ivan Yakovlev to a commission from the Russian imperial court. It was intended for the grand procession of ladies of the court on the occasion of Alexander II’s coronation. A further nine similar carriages were made in Yakovlev’s workshops and at the factories of Christian Tatzky and the Frebelius brothers. In 1883 the carriage was refurbished and used for the same purpose at the coronations of Alexander III and Nicholas II (1896)
