Chair and table in the "Louis XVI style"

Wood, silk velvet; lacquering, carving, gilding

The table and chair belong to a set produced by the St Petersburg Melzer factory for one of the rooms occupied by the imperial family in the Winter Palace. Items of this sort in the "Louis XVI style" covered with ivory-coloured French lacquer, set off with a slight amount of gilding, were very popular with high-born customers.
