1853 Designed by G. Bosse St Petersburg Armchair: 194 x 65 x 60 cm Wood and silk; carving and gilding The armchair and chair come from the furniture suite made for the Crimson Boudoir of the Winter Palace. The interior was designed by G. Bosse who showed great virtuosity in decorating interiors in the so-called neo Rococo style. The dominating bright colours of the upholstery fabrics and intricate gilded ornaments, characteristic of the style, made the room look festive and exquisite. Rocaille forms of the furniture rendered dynamism to the space and allowed to create cosy corners for the guests. The Crimson Boudoir was part of the residential apartments designed for Maria Alexandrovna (Grand Duchess of Hesse-Darmstadt), spouse of emperor Alexander II. |
