14: Russian Painting of the First Half of the 19th Century

Priam Begging the Body of Hector from Achilles

1824

Alexei Markov

110 x 141.4 cm

Oil on canvas

The collection also includes such genres as history painting, landscape, the still life, genre and animal pieces. Their numbers cannot be compared with the portraits, but they do include a number of works that are interesting and important for the history of art. Of undoubted interest, for example, is Alexei Markov's Priam Begging the Body of Hector from Achilles, presented to the board of the Academy of Arts in 1824 in competition for the Large Gold Medal. (Alexander Ivanov's work of the same title was also painted at that time.)
