While not a "collection of masterpieces" like the Russian Museum and the Tretyakov Gallery, the stocks of Russian painting are nonetheless a unique collection, reflecting fairly fully the most important stages in this field of art in the 18th and 19th century. Although a number of major names in Russian painting of the second half of the 19th century are missing, the collection does include works by Vasily Perov, Nikolai Gay, Konstantin Makovsky, Ivan Kramskoi, Nikolai Nevrev, Leonid Solomatkin and others. The small collection of works from the turn of the new century features the names of Boris Kustodiev, Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin, Nikolai Bogdanov-Belsky, Konstantin Somov, Konstantin Korovin. Leonid Pasternak, Arkady Rylov, Ilya Mashkov, Stepan Yaremich and Ernst Liphart.
