1867 Leonid Solomatkin 83.2 x121.5 cm Oil on canvas The genre painting of the second half of the 19th century is represented incompletely, by individual masterpieces that include Leonid Solomatkin's Fire in a Village at Night. This was probably the artist's first painting on the "village fire" theme that was produced in 1867 and awarded a prize of money at the competition of the Society for the Encouragement of Artists. Later Solomatkin would return repeatedly to this theme, which was very common in the art of the 1860s and 1870s. |
