This room covers the "imperial" period (1744-1917) in the history
of the St Petersburg factory. From its foundation in 1744 the Imperial
Porcelain Factory played a leading role in the development of Russian
porcelain as an enterprise attached to the imperial court and fulfilling
its commissions. The display in this room makes it possible to trace
the evolution of porcelain-making from the first experimental items
produced by Dmitry Vinogradov, the creator of Russian porcelain,
to the famous services, sculptural compositions and decorative vases
made for the Winter Palace and other imperial residences.
