No earlier than 1756 - 1762 Nevskaya Porcelain Manufactory (from 1765 the Imperial Porcelain Factory) Porcelain, carved, with polychrome overglaze painting and gilding The first porcelain table and dessert service was made
for Empress Elizabeth in 1756, when under Vinogradov's direction a sizeable
kiln was constructed at the Imperial Factory in order to fire large items.
The rocaille shapes of this service and the decoration - a raised net
pattern in gold with purple flowers and garlands of moulded polychrome
flowers - accorded with the tastes of the era. In the mid-18th century
the creation of moulded and carved details used to decorate pieces of
porcelain was an extremely laborious process performed by hand by the
factory's craftsmen. This service was used to set the Empress's own table
at formal dinners. It is an established fact that in 1838 this service
was in the Tsarskoye Selo palace and on the orders of Nicholas I was enlarged
to sixty place settings. The display of the Porcelain Museum includes
a plate from the original part of the service.
