This room houses a display of mediaeval works of art
from Europe and Russia. The highlights of the collection are a reliquary
in the form of the figure of a deacon and the processional cross of
St Trudpert. The display cases contain crosses, caskets, monstrances
and the tops of crosiers. The Great Church of the Winter Palace was
the source of two sets of liturgical utensils made of gold and decorated
with coloured precious stones (1670s, workshops of the Moscow Kremlin)
and icons in gold mounts that belonged to members of the imperial
family. A Gospel (1702) embellished with embroidery in pearls belonged
to Tsarevich Peter (1715-1719), the son of Peter the Great. |
