This is one of the rooms of what were the premises for the palace guard. The display features a unique complex of archaeological finds that were made at the Pazyryk and Bashadar sites in the Altai in 1949-50. Burial mounds of the 6th to 3rd century B.C. produced the mummified bodies of the nomadic chieftains, their wives and also grave goods. Articles made of wood, leather, felt and woven fabric survived in the permafrost. Unique among them are the world's oldest pile carpet (4th-3rd centuries B.C.), created using a knotting technique, and a wooden chariot in an extremely rare state of preservation.
