The exhibition presents the archeological finds from the burial mounds in the mountains of the North-Western Caucasus, mainly from the site of Moshchevaya Balka (8th-9th centuries). This archeological site was located by the Bolshaya Laba River, not far from the place where once part of the Silk Route passed. Many silk fabrics were found in the burials of the nobles of local Alanian and Adygheian tribes, which now make up one of the world's largest collections. Thanks to the favourable climatic and soil conditions in the area, furs, leather, wood and fabrics, mainly Byzantine, Sogdian and Chinese silks, have been preserved in a fairly good condition.
