This room in the New Hermitage was originally intended
for the display of antiquities from the Kingdom of Cimmerian Bosporus.
The walls and piers of the room were finished with stucco (artificial
marble); the ceiling painted with an ornamental pattern. The display
features works of sculpture (Roman copies of Greek originals), small
bronze and terracotta plastic art, and jewellery from the Hellenistic
era (4th-1st centuries B.C.). Particularly interesting is the collection
of Tanagra terracotta statuettes and also part of the museum's very
rich collection of engraved gems, including the famous Gonzaga Cameo. |
