In the second half of the 19th century this room belonged to the Third Reserve Apartment (formerly, after the 1837 fire, it was a schoolroom for Nicholas I's sons, Nikolai and Mikhail). The chief element of the display is lathes from the court turnery of Peter the Great: three lateral copying lathes, two medal-striking lathes and a machine for cutting cogwheels. They were made between 1712 and 1729 by Franz Singer, Andrei Nartov and other craftsmen belonging to the Turnery. The display also includes a printing-press from the Senate printshop, carved walnut cupboards, Dutch chairs, and a model of the house in Zaandam where Peter I lived in 1697.
