This is the former Study of Empress Alexandra Fiodorovna (architect Alexander Krasovsky, 1894-95). The display is devoted to the work of the best-known furniture-maker in Russia in the early decades of the 19th century - Heinrich Gambs (1765-1831). This pupil of the celebrated David Roentgen arrived in St Petersburg in the 1790s and founded a firm that flourished until the 1870s. His mahogany bureau of 1815 mounted with ormolu and containing a hidden mechanism is a masterpiece of the cabinetmaker's art. The Gambs firm also produced the mahogany secretaire decorated with ormolu.
