The Hanging Garden is an architectural structure typical of 18th-century palace ensembles. It is located at second-storey level, above what were the court stables and carriage houses and occupies an area between the galleries that link the Northern and Southern Pavilions of the Small Hermitage. The garden's central alley is adorned by decorative sculptures. A parterre of flowerbeds with a marble fountain is laid out by the Northern Pavilion. Statues are placed around the fountain. In the middle of the 19th century a glazed tent-roofed winter garden was created here. There are wooden dovecotes by the walls of the galleries.
