This is one of the two galleries of the Small Hermitage
(architects: Jean-Baptiste Vallin de la Mothe and Yury Velten, 1764-75)
that flank the Hanging Garden. After the reconstruction of the building
in the 1840s it was hung with portraits of the ruling dynasty and
became known as the Romanov Gallery. Today the display presents the
art of the Low Countries from the 15th and 16th centuries. Among the
masterpieces of this collection is Robert Campin's diptych of The
Trinity and The Virgin and Child at the Fireplace. Other
notable works include St Luke Painting the Virgin by Rogier
van der Weyden, The Healing of the Blind Man of Jericho by
Lucas van Leyden and works by Jan Gossaert (Mabuse) and Frans Floris |
