This room is used to display the paintings of the celebrated French Post-Impressionist artist Paul Gauguin (1848-1903). The Hermitage possesses 15 works by the painter, the majority of them painted on Tahiti. The Hermitage's stock of Gauguins comes from the collections of the Moscow art-patrons Ivan Morozov and Sergei Shchukin. Among the 13 works on display in the room are such famous canvases as Woman Holding a Fruit, Tahitian Pastorals, Scene from Tahitian Life (1896), Sacred Spring (1894), Idol (1898) and Sunflowers (1901).
