This room is used to display the paintings of the celebrated
French Post-Impressionist artist Paul Gauguin (1848-1903). The Hermitage
possesses 15 works by the painter, the majority of them painted on
Tahiti. The Hermitage's stock of Gauguins comes from the collections
of the Moscow art-patrons Ivan Morozov and Sergei Shchukin. Among
the 13 works on display in the room are such famous canvases as
Woman Holding a Fruit, Tahitian Pastorals, Scene from Tahitian Life
(1896), Sacred Spring (1894), Idol (1898) and Sunflowers
(1901). |
