This room continues the display of works by the French
artist Henri Matisse (1869-1954). Family Portrait (1911) was
painted to a commission from the Moscow collector Sergei Shchukin
and shows the artist's own family. In Conversation the artist depicted
himself and his wife Amelie. The Moroccan Amido, Zorha Standing
(both 1912) and Arab Coffee-House were painted under the influence
of the artist's journeys to Morocco. The room also contains two portraits
(1939 and 1947) of Matisse's secretary and muse Lydia Delektorskaya,
a portrait of the artist's wife and examples of the bronze sculpture
that Matisse created. |
