This room presents works by members of the group known as the Fauves. In The Red Dancer and Antonia la Coquinera Kees van Dongen (1877-1968) depicted Montmartre cabaret dancers, while his Lady in a Black Hat is a collective image of a femme fatale. The work of André Derain (1880-1954) is represented in the Hermitage by 14 paintings. They reflect the influence of Cubism, Primitivism and African art. Among them are Portrait of an Unknown Man Reading a Newspaper, Girl in Black and Still Life with a Skull. This room also contains landscapes by Maurice Vlaminck (1876-1958).
