This room is used to display works by Pablo Picasso,
one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. The Hermitage possesses
36 of his paintings. Of the four works from the "Blue Period" the
most significant are Two Sisters (The Visit), painted
after the artist visited the prison hospital of Saint-Lazare, and
The Absinthe Drinker (1901). Among the works created under
the influence of Iberian sculpture and African art are The Dance
of the Veils and Composition with a Skull (1908). Early Cubism
is represented by Three Women, Seated Woman, Dryad and Friendship
(all -1908). |
