Before the February Revolution in 1917 this part of
the Winter Palace contained the living quarters of ladies-in-waiting.
On display here now are works by Wassily Kandinsky, one of the greatest
avant-garde artists of the 20th century. The Hermitage has six works
by the artist, including a Sketch for Composition
No. 5 (1911), View of Murnau (1908) and Winter
(1909). One of the most significant works that the artist created
in Munich is Composition No. 6. This room also
contains Landscape with a Red House by Alexei Jawlensky and
three sculptures by Emile Antoine Bourdelle: Beethoven. A Tragic
Mask, Eloquence. Study of a Head and Portrait of the Artist
