This room contains Indian sculpture dating from the 1st century B.C. to the 19th century - ancient and mediaeval. The works of plastic art in stone, bronze and terracotta present deities and the personages of legends. Outstanding among the ancient pieces is a statue of Buddha Sakyamuni standing. A striking example of mediaeval art is the sculpture of Gomukha Yaksha and his beloved. Notable in the display-case of South Indian bronzes of the 14th to 18th century created by the lost-wax method is a statuette of Shiva Natarajah, the Lord of the Dance.
