This room presents Tibetan art from the 10th century to the early 20th. The core of the display is the collection of Prince Esper Ukhtomsky (1861-1921), a senior civil servant, who accompanied Nicholas II during his journey to the East. The cases contain ritual items connected with the Buddhist religion. Outstanding among the many bronze sculptures are Shadakshari-Avalokiteshvara, the Deity of Compassion and Bodhisattva Maitreya - the Forthcoming Buddha. Of interest is the painting on canvas of Yama, the Lord of Death. In the centre of the room is a sculptural mandala, a schematic representation of the Universe.
