This room on the top floor of the Winter Palace previously
served as the portrait drawing-room of Nicholas I. The display here
is an introduction to one of the world's best collections of Iranian
ceramics from the 16th and 17th centuries. The display-cases contain
items executed in the local traditions and others imitating Chinese
porcelain. Among the former are bowls and vessels covered with a bright
glaze and decorated in the style of miniature painting. A vivid example
of the second group with Chinese motifs is a large bottle bearing
images of pheasants and leaping gazelles. The display is completed
by a collection of copper and brass vessels from the 16th and 17th
centuries, Iranian miniatures and 17th-century carpets. |
