This room is on the top floor of the Winter Palace and was used by high officials under Emperor Nicholas I. The display presents Iranian applied art from the 17th century: glass jugs and carafes with elegant elongated necks; lacquered papier-mache pen-cases decorated with miniature paintings and ornamental motifs. Of interest here are paintings executed on canvas in the first half of the 19th century, including two portraits of Fath Ali Shah, the ruler of Iran, by the artist Mihr-Ali, the painting Fath Ali Shah Inspecting the Persian Troops and also a work on the theme of the Russo-Persian War of 1806-13: A Battle between the Persians and Russians.
