Archeological Expeditions Undertaken by the State Hermitage in 2003: A Conference On 3 and 4 June 2004 a conference was held in the State Hermitage to review the results of investigations carried out by the museum’s archeological expeditions during 2003. Director of the State Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky delivered introductory words of greeting to the participants. A report by A.N. Mazurkevich, B. S. Korotkevich, M.E. Polkovnikova, M.A. Kulkova and A.V. Mikhailov was devoted to the investigations of the Northwestern Archeological Expedition. N.V. Chugunov spoke about the work that was done in 2003 at the burial complex Arzhan-2. Several results from the 2001-2003 field expeditions at the Dogee-Baala barrow were summarized by N.N. Nikolaev and S.V. Khavrin. A report by S.V. Pankova and V.N. Arkhipov dealt with new monuments of cave art from Southern Siberial. L.S. Marsadolov told of the work done by the Sayany-Altai Expedition. S.V. Tomsinsky reported on excavations in the Uglich Kremlin. E.A.Âurova delivered a paper on the work being carried out in the Uglich commercial settlement and in the Nikolsky Monastery. In their report O.M. Ioannisyan, P.L. Zykov and V.P. Glazov directed the audience’s attention to new research at the St Dmitry Cathedral in Vladimir. Ya. V. Domansky, K.K. Marchenko, I.V. Tunkina, N.S. Veketova and I.V. Osokina were the authors of a paper dealing with the Berezansk (Nizhny Bug) Antiquities Expedition. S.L. Soloviev spoke about the Antiquities Multidisciplinary Archeological Expedition of 2003. O.Yu. Sokolova described the results of the Nymphean Expedition of 2003. A.M. Butyagin, N.V. Novoselov, N.Yu. Novoselov, N.Yu. Novoselova and D.E. Chistov submitted an account of the work done by the Mirmek Expedition. M.B. Shchukin, O.V. Sharov, P.V. Shuvalov, L.A. Sokolova and I.A. Garbuz reported on investigations at the Taraktash settlement in the village of Dachnoye, Sudak district. A presentation by M.G. Kramarovsky and V.D. Gukin described work by the Golden Horde Archeological Expedition in the rural region of Solkhat; this is a continuation of investigations at the Bokatash II monument in 2003. A report by S.B. Adaksina, V.P. Kirilko and V.L. Myts was devoted to investigations at the Genoese fortress in Chembalo. B.I. Marshak and V.I. Raspopov reported on excavations in Penjikent. G.L. Semenov, I.K. Malkiel, D. Mirzaakhmedov and A.I. Torgoev told of the 2003 excavations in Paikend. Geodesic equipment was also presented at the conference. |
