The Department of Museum Affairs and Protection of Cultural Monuments at St Petersburg University On 30 August 2004 the St Petersburg State University Philosophy Faculty presented its new Department of Museum Affairs and Protection of Cultural Monuments which will begin to function this year. The Department will prepare specialists in the very broad issues of protecting historical and cultural monuments, as well as the organization of exhibitions at the national and international levels. The Department will be headed by Director of the State Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky. In addition to traditional history of art, students will major in economics and law. In the opinion of Dr. Piotrovsky, students who complete this degree will not only be competent art connoisseurs but also managers. Staff of the State Hermitage, the State Russian Museum and the Russian Ethnographic Museum will be among the instructors. |
