Closing evening of music and literature at the Hermitage’s Student Club On 16 May 2004 the Winter Palace of Peter the Great was the venue for the Hermitage Student Club’s evening of music and literature entitled “Pages from a Venetian Album”, which closed the 2003-2004 educational season.. The Club’s Italian Section "LO STUDIO ITALIANO" (director - State Hermitage researcher M.V. Vlasova) prepared this mixed -media event around the subject of the art of Venice in the 18th century - “Masks. Candles. Mirrors. The Venetian Dream”. The students’ intention was to use the mixed-media technique to interpret paintings by the Venetian painter Pietro Longhi, the poetry of Marina Tsvetaeva, and Pavel Muratov. The music of 18th century Italian composers Pergolesi and Vivaldi, as well as an English composer from the same period, Robert Woodcock, organically united the scenes in the mixed-media and helped to re-create the atmosphere of the epoch in a manner that was precise in style. The young “actors” wore Venetian costumes which in part they made with their own hands and they transported both guests and participants of this evening to the mysterious and cunning world of Carlo Goldoni’s dramaturgy, compelling them to share the experience and fun with heroes of the Commedia dell’Arte. The student evening was held in the rooms of the Winter Palace of Peter the Great, which created a genuine stage setting and historical decoration steeped in the atmosphere of the 18th century. The second “page” in the Venetian “album” was the performance of the “Per Artem” vocal quintet who are laureates of the 2nd E.A.Mravinsky International Competition. The group’s artistic director is L.M. Stoyanova, who holds the title of “honored culture worker." The superior vocal mastery, beautiful timbres of the voices, historical costumes and rarely performed music of Italian madrigals all created an atmosphere of real celebration. The fifth educational season in the Hermitage Student Club has come to an end. This small anniversary was marked in a worthy and creative manner by all participants of the closing evening in the Winter Palace of Peter the Great. |
