The Music of Life. An exhibition of works by Ulyana Smirnova, member of the Hermitage Student Club On 20 November 2004 an exhibition of paintings and graphic art entitled The Music of Life by Ulyana Smirnova, member of the Hermitage Student Club and student of the Herzen State Pedagogical University, was opened to the public in the Youth Center of the Hermitage. The works on display were done both in realistic and in abstract styles and there were also a number of collages. Smirnova's art is distinguished by great richness of her painterly palette and expressiveness of her black and white graphics. There is considerable diversity in the topics chosen for the works on exhibit: childhood, youth, man's loneliness and life in a large city. The opening of the exhibition was accompanied by a student performance staged by female students who are also actresses in the Bliznetsy (Twins) Theater. Their show was intended to demonstrate the complexity and dramatic side of modern life, blending in with the landscape lyricism and with the still life philosophy of the young artist. Ulyana's works are noteworthy for a unique quality and for the stylistic variety of her creative manner. The Youth Center is planning to have additional exhibitions of works by members of the Student Club. |
