Exhibition and Master Class of Igor Lebedev

On 12 February 2005 photographer Igor Lebedev held a Master Class in the Youth Center of the State Hermitage within the context of the program Topical Art in Petrograd, Leningrad, Petersburg. Prior to this event his show entitled To the South via the North-East opened. This name was suggested by the name of one of Alfred Hitchock’s films. The exhibition offers visitors a series of photos made in Lebedev’s original style: the soft contours of the subject are offset by a contrasting drawn line. Igor Lebedev works in various fields of photography. He experiments and achieves unusual, unpredictable results.

Like some magician, the master demonstrated the possibilities contained in the simplest chemical materials used in photography - developers and fixatives. Photography without printing may sound paradoxical but this is just the miracle that participants of the Master Class witnessed. Everyone who so wished cold realize his fantasies on ordinary photographic paper.
