Archeological Research in St Petersburg: A seminar on scholarly issues and field work

On 14 February 2005 there was a seminar organized by the Sector of Architectural Archeology of the Department of History and Restoration of Architectural Monuments, State Hermitage and the Institute of the History of Material Culture (IHMC) of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Among the participants were staff of the State Hermitage, the Institute of the History of Material Culture of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Northwestern Institute of Cultural Heritage, the St Petersburg State University, and also the Museum of the 700 Years of Landskrona, the Neva Estuary and Nienschantz.


The tasks which the seminar dealt with included: discussion of topical questions regarding the safeguarding of the archeological heritage of St Petersburg and acquainting researchers with the results of recent archeological excavations which were carried out within the city limits. The venue for the seminar was the Museum of the 700 Years of Landskrona, the Neva Estuary, and Nienschantz..


This seminar on scholarly issues and field work ended in a Round Table on the Issues of Studying, Preserving and Using the Archeological Heritage of St Petersburg and in the opening of the exhibition New Archeological Research in St Petersburg in the Museum of the 700 Years of Landskrona, the Neva Estuary, and Nienschantz.
