On 27 October 2005 the annual Readings dedicated to the memory of the outstanding scholar Vladimir Levinson-Lessing were held in the Hermitage Theatre. Levinson-Lessing worked in the Hermitage for half a century. Deputy Director of the State Hermitage for Research Georgy Vilinbakhov delivered introductory remarks to the audience.

Among those taking part in the conference were specialists from the Department of Western European Art, the Department of the Antique World, the Oriental Department, and the Department of Public Education of the State Hermitage, as well as scholars from the I.E. Repin State Academic Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (Russian Academy of Arts), the A.S. Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts (Moscow), the Russian Ethnographic Museum, and the Pavlovsk State Museum-Reserve.

The reports read at the conference were devoted to museum affairs and research on artistic monuments.
