From Francois I to Louis XIV. On 4 March an exhibition of 16th-17th century French ceramics from the
Hermitage collection opened in the Blue Bedroom of the Winter Palace.
This collection is the largest in Russia and its richness compares favorably
with the best collections of West European museums. The exhibition features
around 80 articles by master craftsmen representing the most significant
centers of ceramics production including the celebrated St Porcheres,
the ceramics of Bernard Palissy and his followers, sculptures from Fontainebleau
and Avon, and French majolica. The Publishing House of the State Hermitage
has issued a scholarly illustrated catalogue of the exhibition.
