The Russian Empire’s Cap with
Earflaps On 12 November 2005, the Youth Educational Center of the Hermitage presented to the public an object called "The Russian Empire’s Cap with Earflaps," which has given its name to an exhibition, as well as an audio-installation called "The Property of the Republic" - a hybrid of the crown or cap of Monomakh, a military tent and machine-gun, a series of objects called Russian roulette - rag pistols and sabers, and much else. Dmitry Tsvetkov is one of the most original artists of his generation. He has to his credit a great many one-man and group shows in galleries and museums around Russia and abroad, as well as participation in such well-known art fairs as Art Moscow, Art Paris, and Àrt Chicago. His creations are huge pistols, daggers, yataghans, grenades and machine-guns. Over the course of many years the artist has made weapons of all kinds, which are different from the real thing only insofar as they do not shoot. Dmitry Tsvetkov creates his weapons by sewing, knitting and embroidery. Dmitry Tsvetkov’s first one-man show in Petersburg has been arranged by the Youth Center of the State Hermitage with the support from the St Petersburg Branch of the State Center of Modern Art. The exhibition runs until 26 November 2005. |
