The Snow Queen in the Winter Palace. Festival of Ice Sculpture. An Ice Collection - Heroes of Andersen in the Hermitage. Celebrating the 200th Anniversary of the Birth of Hans Christian Andersen

On 25 December 2005, the traditional festival of ice sculpture was held in the Grand Courtyard of the Winter Palace, featuring an ice collection entitled Heroes of Andersen in the Hermitage.

With the help of sculptors from the "Ice Studio" Art Center, family teams created artistic shapes according to an assigned theme. Sketches for the compositions were prepared by the children themselves. As twilight descended and special lighting was turned on, the ice sculptures were transformed into a sort of ice theatre.

The participants in the competition were all students from the Drawing Studio of the State Hermitage's School Center and their parents.

The organizers of the competition were the State Hermitage and the "Ice Studio" Art Center.
