Installation: Annual Report
On 30 November 2006, Annual Report, a project by the Moscow art group Art Business Consulting, was presented to the public in the exhibition hall of the State Hermitage's Youth Educational Center. The presentation was part of a program called Topical Art of the 20th - 21st Centuries, which is run with the support of the St Petersburg branch of the State Center for Modern Art. The group Art Business Consulting (юбя) was created in 2001 and brings together three masters: Maxim Iliukhin, Natalya Struchkova and Mikhail Kosolapov. In their works we see the image of a hero of our times - an office dweller, a middle manager. The group consistently avoids the posture of social critique. In their own practice, they demonstrate the principles of tolerance and humanism: understanding, giving hope and justifying "the little man," whose life takes place in an office, without making an expose or mocking him. Initially the office was seen as an exhibition device, but with the passage of time it changed in the masters' works to become a global metaphor for the modern world. Since 2003, Art Business Consulting has been successfully operating an office - gallery in the premises of the cultural center Art-Strelka. In less than two years of operation, the gallery held more than 20 exhibitions, and it also took part in theatrical productions and in international festivals and fairs. Each of the founding artists in the company is an active participant in the contemporary artistic process. Maxim Iliykhin has been celebrated for his video works and performances. The pixel paintings of Natalya Struchkova are widely known both within Russia and abroad. Mikhail Kosolapov's sculptural objects decorate the streets of Russian cities and are successfully exhibited at international art fairs. On 2 December the authors of the project conducted a master class at 18:00 in the Youth Educational Center of the State Hermitage for students participating in the creative sections of the Hermitage Student Club. |
