Ice Sculpture Holiday Event in
the State Hermitage On 9 December 2006, the traditional family show and competition of ice sculptures called the Kingdom of the Snow Queen in the Winter Palace took place in the Grand Parade Courtyard of the Winter Palace. The event is part of the Hermitage’s homage to Christmas. With assistance from sculptors of the Ice Studio Art Centre, family teams created artistic images on the basis of an assigned theme. Sketches of the compositions were then done by the children themselves. With the onset of twilight, special lighting was turned on and the ice sculptures turned into a sort of ice theatre. The participants in the competition are children from the St Petersburg Association of Parents of Handicapped Children together with their parents and students of the Drawing Studio of the State Hermitage School Centre together with their parents. The competition was organized by the State Hermitage and the Ice Studio Art Centre.
