HERMITAGE-ITALY IN FERRARA
The Hermitage-Italy project becomes the main project of cultural collaboration between Italy and Russia

On 14 March 2007, in Bari, in festive setting and in the presence of Prime Minister of Italy Romano Prodi, Russian President Vladimir Putin and a large delegation of ministers from both countries participating in the bilateral Italy-Russia Summit, Director of the State Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky, President of the Province of Ferrara Pier Piorgio Dall'Acqua, Mayor of Ferrara Gaetano Sateriale and President of the Emilia Romagna Region Vasco Errani signed a Protocol on the Creation of the Hermitage-Italy Center in Ferrara. - a city which, in the opinion of Minister of Foreign Affairs Massimo D'Alema, is predestined by fate to play a major role..

Among the numerous initiatives which marked the Summit meeting, this project stands out for its novel features. Among those also present at the ceremony was Maurizio Cecconi, Managing Director of Villaggio Globale International, a partner company of the Hermitage in Italy which did a great deal to prepare and organize this joint project.

Immediately following the signing of the Protocol, Director of the Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky said: "We are moving on to a very important and new phase in cultural relations between Italy and Russia over cultural issues. Qualitatively new relations are being established between our countries. The Center will be the place where joint efforts will go into studying and interpreting phenomena of Russian and Italian history, artistic creativity and mutual influences. This one of a kind Program will facilitate multifaceted and in-depth evaluation of how our cultures have permeated one another. The result of this collaboration will be joint exhibitions, the publication of research catalogues of the collections of Italian art and research into the manifold historical ties between Russia and Italy. I believe this will become a new landmark in our relations today for the further reason that the agreement has been signed in the presence and with the support of the leaders of our countries. This means that the Center will operate under the direct protection of the leaders of Russia and Italy. I think President Putin and Prime Minister Prodi will agree with this."

President of the Province of Ferrara Pier Giorgio Dall' Aqua emphasized the following: "For us it is especially momentous that the signing of the joint Protocol of Intent took place in the presence of Mr Putin, Mr Prodi and ministers of both governments. This marks the beginning of the implementation of a project that we have been working on for a long time. Now we can move on directly to a matter that will serve to strengthen the cultural bonds between Italy and Russia. Ferrara is proud that it can make its contribution to the creation of conditions for deepening our knowledge and extending research that will facilitate advancing our relations in the field of culture. The satisfaction expressed by Director of the Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky and representatives of both governments in their speeches after the signing of the Protocol heralds the implementation of what has been planned and is a guarantee of future performance. We are prepared for them for the sake of the honor of Ferrara and of our country."

Il Progetto "Ermitage Italia" diventa progetto di punta della collaborazione culturale tra Italia e Russia.

Alla presenza del Presidente del Consiglio dei Ministri Romano Prodi, del Presidente russo Vladimir Putin e della corposa delegazione ministeriale russa e italiana che ha partecipato ai vertice bilaterale Italia - Russia, è stato firmato oggi a Bari, come già preannunciato, con grande solennità - da parte di Michail Piotrovskij, Direttore generale del Museo Statale Ermitage di San Pietroburgo, del Presidente della Provincia di Ferrara Pier Giorgio Dall'Acqua, del Sindaco di Ferrara Gaetano Sateriale e del Presidente della Regione Emilia Romagna Vasco Errani - il protocollo per la costituzione di Ermitage Italia nella città di Ferrara, definita nell'occasione dal Ministro degli Esteri Massimo D'Alema "città magistrale".

Il progetto culturale è l'unico, tra le diverse iniziative condivise tra Italia - Russia, ufficialmente siglato nell'occasione.
Presente all'incontro anche Maurizio Cecconi, Amministratore delegato di Villaggio Globale International, società partner dell'Ermitage in Italia, che ha curato le fasi preliminari e di gestazione della complessa operazione.

Il Direttore del Museo russo Michail Piotrovskij subito dopo la firma del Protocollo ha dichiarato:"È un passaggio molto importante sul rapporto di lavoro fra Italia e Russia sulle questioni della cultura. Un rapporto di nuova qualità e stabilità tra i due Paesi. Un luogo in cui avverranno manifestazioni pensate e ricercate insieme sulla storia e sulla cultura di Italia e Russia e sulle reciproche influenze. Un accordo unico nel suo genere che servirà a relazionarsi con il complesso delle situazioni italiane in rapporto con quelle russe.

Il risultato di questa cooperazione sarà la produzione di una serie di mostre, cataloghi legati alle collezioni italiane e studi sugli intrecci tra la storia italiana e russa. Credo sia molto importante per la storia tra le nostre relazioni e ancora più importante degli altri accordi in passato, in particolare perchè questo è stato firmato alla presenza e con il consenso di Putin e Prodi. Questo significa che il Centro è sotto il Patronato della Russia e dell'Italia e penso che i Presidenti Prodi e Putin siano molto felici di questo."

Concetti rimarcati anche dal Presidente della Provincia di Ferrara Pier Giorgio dall'Acqua: "È stato estremamente significativo firmare un protocollo d'intesa con l'Ermitage di fronte a Putin, Prodi e ai Ministri del Governo russo e italiano. Si è dato cosi l'avvio ad un lavoro che stavamo preparando da tanto tempo. Ora possiamo realmente cominciare ad operare per la crescita delle relazioni culturali tra Italia e Russia. Ferrara è orgogliosa di contribuire in questo modo allo sviluppo delle conoscenze, della ricerca e della costruzione di un modo per conoscerci e per portare avanti la reciprocità dei nostri rapporti. La soddisfazione che è stata sottolinenata al termine della firma del protocollo dal Direttore dell'Ermitage Michail Piotrovskij e dagli autorevoli rappresentanti dei due Governi è la premessa per un futuro importante carico di soddisfazioni per Ferrara e per il nostro Paese."
