Presentation of the book Russia. 20th Century. 1917

On 23 May 2007, the State Hermitage and Interros formally presented to the public a book entitled 1917, which is part of the Russia. 20th Century series that is being published within the Interros publishing program. Interros is the museum's partner on the Greater Hermitage project. The presentation took place in the General Staff building.

The new book is devoted to one of the most dramatic and mythologized periods of Russian history. With detailed information and analysis, the monograph provides a picture of life in Russia during the period between revolutions. It is based on documents in the Moscow archives and museums, much of which is being published for the first time.

The presentation was opened by Director of the State Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky. The guests included Moscow historians and bibliographers, compilers of the book, participants in the publishing program, as well as directors of the largest research libraries, museums of history and higher educational institutions. Following the presentation, they were given copies of the book.

The presentation was part of the Hermitage Milieu program and took place in the Rose Room of the General Staff building (in the restored chancellery of Minister of Foreign Affairs Nesselrode). After the discussion, a very special tour of the General Staff building was held.
