Nicholas Roerich Prize Awards at the State Hermitage Museum

On 8 October 2007, a gala ceremony awarding the Nicholas Roerich International Prize was held at the State Hermitage Museum. Awards were presented by Mikhail Piotrovsky, Chairman of the Prize Committee, Director of the State Hermitage Museum, President of the Worldwide Club of St. Petersburgers, and a professor at St. Petersburg State University.

The Nicholas Roerich International Prize was established in 2003, during St. Petersburg's 300th anniversary, and has been awarded annually. The primary goal of the prize is to identify the highest standard of personal dedication to Culture and Society, and to publicly recognise the efforts of generous individuals who demonstrate a high level of creativity, a commitment to common good on a regular basis, and an example that inspires younger generations to be responsible for the future of both our homeland and the world at large.

The founders of the Nicholas Roerich International Prize including the St. Petersburg State University, the Worldwide Club of St. Petersburgers, the Roerich Family Museum and Institute in St. Petersburg, the Nicholas Roerich Art School in St. Petersburg, and the Roerich Heritage International Charity Fund formed the Prize Committee which is made up of members from Europe, Asia, and America.

The 2007 winners:

Creation of Russia's Cultural Image in the World Category:
Valentina Matvienko, Governor of St. Petersburg - nominated by the Roerich Heritage International Charity Fund and the Worldwide Club of St. Petersburgers for her contribution to the foundation of the Roerich Family Museum and Institute in St. Petersburg.

Artistic Creativity Category:
Stanislav Ivanov, Director of the Roerich Art School in St. Petersburg - nominated by the Roerich Art School and the Worldwide Club of St. Petersburgers for his contribution to the development of national traditions in fine arts.

Pedagogy and Education Category:
Pyotr Anofrikov, President of the Siberian Fund for Children's Movies Development, Honoured Cultural Worker of the Russian Federation, member of the Cinematographers Union of the Russian Federation, Director of the Poisk Children's Film Studio in Novosibirsk - nominated by the Siberian Fund for Children's Movies Development, the Plenipotentiary Representative Service of the President of the Russian Federation in the Siberian Federal District, the Culture Department of the Novosibirsk Region, and the Novosibirsk Youth Committee for his contribution to the development of children's animation.

Valery Lednev, Head of the Drawing Department at the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia, Honoured Worker of Arts of the Russian Federation, People's Artist of Russia - nominated by the Herzen University for his contribution to St. Petersburg's artistic and pedagogical life.

Preservation of Cultural Values Category:
Harkishore Shri Kejriwal, patron of art, collector, founder (together with Svetoslav Roerich) of the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat Art Gallery with its unique collections of Indian art and the gallery's art school - nominated by the Roerich Family Museum and Institute for his contribution to the preservation of Indian national art.

Peacekeeping Category:
Shagdaryn Bira, a member of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, the Secretary General of the International Association for Mongol Studies, the President of the Mongolian Roerich Society - nominated by the Roerich Family Museum and Institute for his contribution to the preservation of Roerich's heritage and the series of works on humanization and globalization history issues.

Preservation of Roerich's Heritage Category:
Vladimir Troyan, a professor at St. Petersburg State University, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Roerich Heritage International Charity Fund and the Roerich Family Museum and Institute - nominated by the Roerich Family Museum and Institute for his contribution to the development of Roerich's scientific methods and the institution of Roerich studies as a science.

 


Shagdaryn Bira, a member of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, the Secretary General of the International Association for Mongol Studies, the President of the Mongolian Roerich Society


Mikhail Piotrovsky, Director of the State Hermitage Museum Chairman of the Prize Committee, President of the Worldwide Club of St. Petersburgers, a professor at St. Petersburg State University
