The First Cadet Corps at the
Menshikov Palace: Scientific Conference dedicated to the 275th Anniversary
of the Foundation On 16-17 October 2007, The First Cadet Corps at the Menshikov Palace scientific conference dedicated to the 275th anniversary of the foundation was held at the Menshikov Palace. Among the participants of the conference were employees of the State Hermitage Museum, as well as museums, scientific and higher educational institutions of St. Petersburg, Moscow, Lipetsk and Saratov. The conference was attended by descendants of teachers and students of the Cadet Corps. E.I. Fedotova and V.V. Voronov made reports based on family archives. Other papers made at the conference were devoted to the history and architecture of the Menshikov Palace at the time it accommodated the Cadet Corps, and to specific places of interest in the building (by E.A. Andreeva, N.A. Ivanov, V.I. Bogdanov, and T.I. Malova). I.V. Saverkina's paper was on the tradition of celebrating the anniversary of the foundation of the cadet corps, and E.I. Ignatieva talked about the creation of the memorial plaque with Empress Anna Ioannovna's decree on the foundation of the corps. Reports made by N.N. Petrukhintsev, S.A. Mezin, A.A. Mikhailov, A.V. Strelnikov, V.G. Avdeev were devoted to the description and analysis of the milestones in the history of the First Cadet Corps between the 18th and the early 20th centuries. Reports by O.S. Andreeva, O.G. Ageeva, N.A. Kopanev, S.R. Dolgova, A.F. Konovalov described some outstanding persons whose lives became closely connected with the First Cadet Corps at various stages of its history. The conference materials have been published in the new volume of Proceedings of the State Hermitage. |
