An Archaeological Journey as Guests of the Muses

In mid December in the halls of the New Hermitage a theatrical game was held for deaf children prepared by 'The Universe, God and Man in the Ancient World and the Middle Ages' group from the Students' Club of the Youth Education Centre of the State Hermitage Museum under the directorship of researcher E.V. Logacheva.

The participants of An Archaeological Journey as Guests of the Muses were pupils from the Special School No. 33 (the teacher E.G. Popova) who have been involved in the School Centre of the State Hermitage Museum for their second year.

The programme's name was no accident. The children undertook a journey back to the times of heroes and gods. The Archaeological Journey was the last class for the pupils dedicated to the culture of the Ancient World and summarizing what they had learnt during their previous visits to the State Hermitage Museum during which they learnt about the traditions, customs and history of ancient festivals and costumes.

The students, involved in the Students' Club of the museum's Youth Education Centre took a great pleasure and interest in preparing the event for the children. Dressed up members of the group 'The Universe, God and Man in the Ancient World and the Middle Ages', which studies ancient traditions and culture, organized for the children a series of captivating competitions in the Ancient Art Halls in the State Hermitage Museum.

The event was concluded with a performance by the 'Italian Studio' (directed by researcher Ì. V. Vlasova). Dressed in renaissance costumes they performed a mediaeval dance, which acquainted the children with the next historical period, which they will study after the New Year.
