Installation ‘Lenproekt' by Peter
Bely On 8 February 2007, the installation Lenproekt by Petersburg artist Peter Bely was presented to the public in the exhibition hall of the State Hermitage's Youth Educational Center. The event took place in the framework of the Class. Topical Art program. Peter Bely is one of St Petersburg's most sought-after and promising young artists. He finds special beauty in industrial ruins, abandoned construction sites and other forms of burn-out. Bely has an MA degree from the College of Fine Arts (London). Since 1999 he has been a member of the Royal Society of Engravers. Peter Bely was born in Leningrad in 1971. In 1989 he graduated from the Middle Art School attached to the Academy of Arts, and from 1990 through 1992 he studied in the section on ceramics and glass of the V.A. Mukhina State Academy of Industrial Arts. Since 1994, Peter Bely has been a member of the St Petersburg Union of Artists. He is engaged in making printed graphics and installations. He teaches in the Smolny Institute. His works are found in private and state collections around Russia and abroad. The Lenproekt exhibition is part of the master's large creative program under the general name Memorial Model Making, which includes several section: Metaphysical Slide Monument, Dream of a Dictator, My Neighborhood, Dangerous Zone and Ideological Anthill. ... The objects on display in the exhibition hall of the Youth Center are architectural models created out of rusting iron - roofing tin, washing tubs, barrels and other improvised materials, illuminated and filled with water. In a strange manner they recreate a recognizable Petersburg cityscape. The change in scale turns the spectator into a Gulliver, while the rough material converts tourist gloss into the ruins of empire. On 10 February Peter Bely held a master class in the State Hermitage's Youth Educational Center for students who are members of the creative sections of the Hermitage Student Club. The exhibition is open until 18 February 2007. Hermitage Youth Educational Center |
